Your nominated pharmacy is the pharmacy your GP sends electronic prescriptions to through EPS. If you’ve already ordered a prescription, outstanding prescriptions may still arrive at your current pharmacy.

What happens if I change my pharmacy after I’ve already ordered a prescription?

If you have already requested a prescription, outstanding prescriptions may still arrive at your current nominated pharmacy. If you are not sure where it has gone, contact us and we will help you work out the quickest route.

How long does it take to switch my nominated (chosen) pharmacy?

Changes can take a few working days to show everywhere. If you need a prescription urgently, contact the pharmacy team so we can talk you through your options.

Can I change my nominated pharmacy in the NHS App?

Many patients can change their chosen pharmacy in the NHS App under Prescriptions. If you cannot see the option, your GP surgery can usually set or change it for you.

What if my prescription goes to the wrong pharmacy?

Start by contacting the pharmacy that has the prescription. If you want support, contact us and we will help you understand what to do next.

Can I collect my prescription from a different pharmacy as a one-off?

Sometimes, yes. If you have a prescription barcode (sometimes called a token), another pharmacy may be able to locate your prescription for a one-off collection. If you are unsure, contact us and we will guide you.

What does it mean to “nominate” a pharmacy?

Nominating a pharmacy (also called choosing a pharmacy) means telling the NHS which pharmacy you want your electronic prescriptions sent to using EPS.

Will switching affect my GP or my care?

No. Your GP surgery and your care stay the same. Switching changes which pharmacy receives your prescriptions through EPS.

Can I change my nominated pharmacy again later?

Yes. You can change your nominated (chosen) pharmacy again if your needs change.

What if my nominated pharmacy can’t supply a medicine?
